Efflorescent salts – Cleaning & Prevention
Unsightly white efflorescence is a common sight on brickwork. On most structures this is caused by natural salts that were present in the clay when the bricks were manufactured, or in the cement when the wall was built. Rain soaks into the brickwork, dissolves these salts and evaporates to leave the familiar furry white stain. Cleaning with Eco-brick cleaner will effectively remove the staining but you must follow up with a treatment of either our Extreme Climate or Superseal. This will arrest the evaporation cycle by greatly reducing the amount of water the bricks can absorb. NOTE: this will not work as well on earth retaining walls as the problem is often ground water pushing through.
